County Armagh Golf Club can only described as a truly authentic Northern Irish golf club. Situated in the town of Armagh, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, the club has a long and quite eccentric history that has helped create a club with bags of charm and character.

The club is one of the oldest in Northern Ireland and it is for this reason that it is known as one of the top golf courses in this area. Mr Charles Burke of Folly House founded it in 1893. Mr Burke was quite a character, he would create a rota in which random people would be selected to play a round of golf with him; this was with the aim to introduce the game to the town of Armagh. Mr Burke took this very seriously, there are stories of a soldier who failed to show when he was selected without giving an excuse, legend has it that Mr Burke was not impressed and later threatened to shoot the soldier in question!

One of the pinnacle points in the club’s history is the bombing of 1980. During the period of trouble in Northern Ireland the club was unfortunately targeted in a bombing campaign, all the facilities were destroyed.

But like a phoenix rising out of the ashes, County Armagh Golf Club was rebuilt into the club that exists today.

The club consists of:

  • An 18 hole, par 70 parkland course set against the backdrop of the historic town of county Armagh
  • Matured greens decorated with many different species of native trees
  • Bunkers designed to challenge the golfer and bring the best out of them
  • Accessible tee times

One of the highlights of this course definitely has to be the scenery. Just like the club itself, the town of Armagh is steeped in history and this is no more evident than when you look at the skyline. The minster dominates the sky and is perfectly complemented by buildings of many different architecture styles. The views and the excellent green, create a perfect mix for a thoroughly enjoyable round of golf.

After a round of golf, County Armagh Golf Club has great facilities waiting to be enjoyed. The clubhouse is the ultimate place to relax after a round of golf, you chat to friends whilst enjoying a great selection of drink ranging from cocktails to Guinness. On your own? Not a Problem! The open and friendly locals will make you feel welcome the moment you walk through the door, their friendliness is only to be surpassed by that of the staff.

If you’re feeling a bit peckish the Green Man Restaurant on site is an absolute must. Great food and even better prices set in a superb ambience will not leave you disappointed.

With a perfect location for a golfing break, fantastic facilities and a challenging course, County Armagh Golf Club will fulfil all your golfing needs and more. Don’t hesitate, check it out today!
