Located just outside of the village of Shillelagh in County Wicklow in the East of Ireland the golf course at Coollattin Golf Club is a fine example of a parkland style course. The club and its course lie in an estate of around 175 acres in the fine Irish countryside.

Both the club and its golf course have a colourful history and the origins of golf at the site date back to 1922. From then the popularity of the course grew during the 30’s however with the onset of the Second World War combined with other unfortunate circumstances at the club the 1940’s was a very quiet time for them both. It was during the 50’s and early 60’s that the course had a revival and it was officially registered with the Golfing Union of Ireland in 1962. Due to its colourful history the official designer of the course remains unknown.

Measuring 6113 metres and consisting of 18 holes this course has a par of 72. It is a generally tricky but enjoyable course which can appeal to a variety of players. Over the years the course and its condition have matured well and consist of narrowed greens and a number of hazards which require a selection of shots to be used to really make the most of this course.

Facilities at Coollattin Golf Club are good and reflect the classic aspects of the sport instead of the modern and almost alien atmosphere sometimes created by courses today. Expect a traditional style clubhouse with bar and restaurant offering a good selection of hearty, home cooked dishes served by a roaring log fire in the colder months. The facilities here are not over the top or fancy but they are of a good quality that can rarely be matched. The staff here are often praised for offering a warm and friendly welcome to all.

Tee times for this course have a generous availability to both visitors and open competitions however prior organisation and booking is highly recommended as there are also member specific tournaments and commitments for the course. Green fee rates here offer extremely good value for money and numerous offers and discounts are available for visiting players if they are accompanied by a club member.

This is somewhat of a secluded club which offers views uninterrupted by housing and other manifestations of civilization which although is perfect for a tranquil setting of golf it can mean that getting to the course is tricky. However it is relatively well connected to the rest of Ireland and Dublin is around an hour and a half away by car. There are a number of accommodation options nearby which should appeal to all types of players and their requirements.
