Found close to the border that Ireland shares with the United Kingdom is the Clones Golf Club and its associated golf course. Nestled within County Monaghan the local area is not particularly known for its golfing however Clones is a beautiful example of a fine Irish golf course and one that many are sure to enjoy. Monaghan, Belturbet and Cavan all lie close to the area and these towns have plenty to offer to visitors of all tastes and ages.

The club here was founded in 1913 and has a rich and diverse history. Set upon some rolling mature land the course as we know it today was designed by the celebrated designer Dr Arthur Spring who has worked extensively on golf course designs throughout Ireland. The current course was opened for play in 2001.

The course is unusual in its design in that there are 20 holes here (yet only 18 in play at any one time) this is to ensure that fairways are well rested and maintained through the winter months. The course is of a parkland style and its 18 holes measure 5724 metres from the yellow tees with a par of 71. Expect gently undulating terrain and a challenging yet scenic course that can be enjoyed by players of all levels and abilities.

The clubhouse here has been recently refurbished and players are sure to enjoy a relaxing time in the bar and restaurant which it boasts. There are also well-appointed locker and changing facilities complete with showers which are available for use by all players. Furthermore buggies are available to hire here which should help facilitate faster play.

Green fee rates for visitors here are very reasonable and reflect the nature of the course and its quality. The availability of tee times for visitors is also generally good and only peak times such as weekends and tournaments have restrictions.

Access to the club from across the north and central parts of Ireland by road is good and Northern Ireland is also very close too. There are a great number of diverse accommodation options in and around the local area that should appeal to visitors of all tastes and budgets and the club itself has a number of personal recommendations.
