Within County Down in the east of Northern Ireland is the Clandeboye Golf Club and its associated golf courses. The location of the club is excellent to welcome visitors from both near and far and the bustling capital city of Belfast is only half an hour away from the site by car. That said, the courses are set in some excellent and picturesque countryside and offer some excellent views across the estate in which they are set as well as further afield.

Not old by Irish standards, the club here was founded originally in 1933. However the club still boasts a rich and interesting history. The two courses at the club at present are the Dufferin and the Ava which have both matured well over the years and have their individual arsenals of features and fans.

The Ava course is the shorter of the two courses but is still made up of 18 holes. With a par of 71 and a length of 5263 metres, the Ava is considered the more universally appealing of the courses here. It is of a moorland-cum-parkland style and players should expect a good presence of mature trees as well as gorse and bracken combined with well contoured fairways and subtle undulations. The fairways here are more forgiving and this makes for a more enjoyable challenge of a course that can be enjoyed by players of varying skill levels.

Facilities at the club are as to be expected and there is a bar in the clubhouse in which players can partake in a well poured beverage after their rounds. There is also a welcoming restaurant offering a selection of delicious dishes. With regards to practice facilities, there is a short game area which is perfect for players to sharpen up their skills.

As this is the less popular of the two courses, tee time availability is generally good and there is sure to be a time to suit all, especially if arranged in advance. Green fee rates for the Ava are reasonable and offer fair value for money, they are somewhat cheaper than those of the Dufferin course.

Road links to the club from much of the rest of the country are good and links from Belfast to the rest of the United Kingdom as well as nearby Ireland are strong. There are a number of accommodation options in and around the local area which should appeal to most tastes and budgets.
