Six kilometres almost directly east of the city of Limerick in County Limerick is where the Castletroy Golf Club and its golf course can be found. Just South of the River Shannon which forms part of a natural border between the counties of Limerick and Clare this course is in an excellent location and is popular with both members and visitors from across Ireland

The club was founded back in 1937 and was originally set in some prime Irish countryside but over the years, a number of housing developments have taken over the local area somewhat however this should not detract from the beauty of the course. In more recent times the club has undergone a number of transformations which were done so by the talented Eddie Connaughton in 2006.

Of a mature parkland style, the courses 18 holes measure just short of 6050 metres from the white tees and have a par of 72. The features here are extensive and combine to make a challenging yet obviously enjoyable course. Examples of said features include USGA standard greens, gently rolling and undulating terrain, beautiful tree lined fairways and cleverly placed water features and bunkers.

Facilities at this club are fair and include a cosy bar and restaurant which players can use after their rounds and here you a sure to receive a true Irish welcome. There is also a variety of equipment available to hire from here including clubs, trolleys and buggies although prior booking is recommended.

Green fee rates for visitors to this course are very reasonable and there are a number of discounts to be had for play at certain times during the week. Also students and societies can also make the most of a number of discounts available for them to play here. Tee time availability is also fair although this is subject to change with the seasons.

Thanks to its relatively central location on the Western fringe of Ireland transport links to much of the rest of the country are strong; particularly from nearby Limerick. There are a number of accommodation options in and around the local area as well as the city of Limerick itself which will appeal to all tastes and budgets and include everything from small, family run establishments to luxurious boutique hotels.
