Found in the far north of Northern Ireland is the Castlerock Golf Club and its two excellent golf courses. Lying within County Londonderry, the site lies close to the major town of Coleraine and is just a short drive down the coast from Portrush, which is home to the world renowned Royal Portrush Golf Club. The surrounding area is a true spot of natural beauty and all that visit here are sure to appreciate this fact.

The foundations of this club date back to 1900 when a meeting was held to consider the feasibility of laying down a golf course in the area. All went well and in the June of 1901 the formal inauguration of the club took place. Originally the club played on a course of just nine holes however the course was soon extended to 18 holes in 1909. Over the years, the club and its courses have grown and diversified and now the club is home to the main Mussenden Course which is the flagship and the smaller yet still enjoyable nine hole Bann course.

Measuring just under 6170 metres from the white tees and with a par of 73, the Mussenden Course is no easy golfing experience and is sure to challenge even the most prolific of players. Due to its location overlooking the churning North Atlantic, the course is of a traditional links style and features are very classical here. Players should expect undulating, rugged terrain combined with lots of sand and a number of natural water features which come together to create this challenging yet visually stunning course.

Facilities at the club are generally good and all are sure to receive a warm welcome from the clubhouse as well as a well poured pint of the famous black stuff. There is both a bar and restaurant area for players to enjoy after their rounds and there is a modest pro shop offering an array of equipment and apparel for visitors.

As the Mussenden is the main course here, tee time availability for visitors is somewhat restricted although there is sure to be a time to suit all if arranged in advance particularly if they are willing to play between Monday and Thursday. Green fee rates for this course are somewhat steep however, when you consider the quality and prestige of both the club and the course it is rather reasonable. There are a number of attractive discounts and offers available for players wanting to combine play on both of the courses that the club has to offer.

The club is well linked to much of the rest of the country and nearby Ireland is also easy to reach by road. As the area is popular with golfing visitors there are a number of accommodation options in and around the local area that are sure to appeal to all.
