The golf course at Castleknock Golf Club is a relatively modern one by Irish standards. Located in County Dublin in the suburb of Castleknock this golf course offers a great balance in terms of location with the capital and all its amenities being only a stone’s throw away yet is set in a beautiful and expansive estate which allows visitors and members alike to relax and take some time out to enjoy the sport that they love.
Designed by Jonathan Gaunt, construction began on the golf course and its sizeable attached hotel in 2003 however it wasn’t opened until some two years later in 2005. No expense was spared in the construction of this popular and stunning resort and that is a fact that shines through to all that play and visit here. Excellent modern drainage and irrigation systems are in place at Castleknock making it playable all year round.
Measuring 5833 metres from the white tees this parkland style course has a par of 72. The design here is, at times, extravagant and the majority of the water features here are manmade due to its inland setting. Greens are of USGA standard which is to be expected for such a modern course and the mature woodland combined with subtle undulations make for a great round of golf. The course does however feature its fair share of challenges which can be enjoyed by players of all strengths and styles.
Facilities at the club are well established and modern and there is a large and popular restaurant providing an array of dining options for members and visitors to enjoy throughout the day. There is also a professional golf shop which is well-stocked and staffed by professionals who can offer advice on your purchases; they also provide a number of coaching and tuition options for those wanting to better their game.
Tee times for visitors to Castleknock are fair and tend to be concentrated towards the beginning and end of the playing day. Availability at weekends is somewhat limited however if booked far enough in advance players should not be disappointed. Considering the quality of the course and its facilities the green fee rates here offer very good value for money and a number of generous discounts are readily available for most days here making this an affordable yet high standard option for many.
Transport connections to the club are good thanks to its proximity with the capital Dublin. From Dublin it is easy to gain access to the rest of the country as well as Northern Ireland and the rest of the world thanks to the international airport there. The main accommodation option here is that of the onsite hotel which has a wide variety of luxury room options that should appeal to all.
