Situated in the lesser known county of County Leitrim in the northwest of Ireland is the golf course at the Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club. Surrounded by a number of imposing mountains such as the Arigna and Curlieu the course here is truly stunning and is crisscrossed by a number of natural rivers and streams. That said, the county town of Leitrim which also lends its name to the golf club is only around 7 km to the south of the site and it has a number of places of interest for visitors to enjoy.

Golf through this club was first played back in 1910 however the course was found in a different location. It then moved in 1936 to a site nearer to the town however in 1944 the course moved to its current location and has remained there ever since. Well known golf architect John McAllister designed the course here back in 1944 and after numerous alterations and upgrades it has matured well.

Comprising of 18 holes, the course here has a par of 70 and measures 5290 metres from the yellow tees. Features of this beautiful parkland course include gently undulating terrain, multi-tiered greens and mature trees. The above mentioned river comes in to play spectacularly on two of the holes here which all players are sure to enjoy.

Facilities at the club are fair and include a welcoming bar and restaurant for players to enjoy after their rounds. Here they are sure to receive a warm Irish welcome as well as some great ales and good food.

Tee times for visitors to this course have very good overall availability, particularly throughout the weekdays, so players here will have no problem in finding a suitable time. Green fee rates are very reasonable here and offer great value for money, there are a number of discounts and offer available here for play at certain times also.

Getting to the club by car is relatively straightforward, if a little time consuming, however the major city of Sligo is just under 50km northwest of the site and links from there are good. There are a number of accommodation options in and around the local area which should appeal to the tastes and budgets of most visitors.

We have played the place on the road from Dublin to the West - it is located on the N4.We were pleasantly surprised by the good condition of the place. The layout of the old cars (1-5 and 15-18) is a classic parkland course with fairly wide fairways. The new cars (6-14) are located in the more open terrain and offer scenic highlights directly on the banks of the river Boyle - House boats 7 and 8 right behind Greens. Also these cars are quite fair, the varied par 3 holes 8, 10 and 13, but the bogey golfer before Herausforderungen.Das clubhouse is quite simple. Overall the course offers an excellent value for money (we have played on a Monday for €25) away from the tourist crowds.
