Found in the far east of Northern Ireland within County Down is the golf course at the Carnalea Golf Club. Lying just outside of the major town of Bangor, the local area is well appointed and connected to meet the demands of most visitors. The course lies overlooking the steely Irish Sea and the remainder of the coastline in the local area is dotted with a number of further excellent courses meaning that the one at Carnalea is in very good company.

The club has a rich and interesting history spanning a great number of years. Golf has been played on the site for some time and its foundations here date back more than a hundred years, however it was not until 1927 that Carnalea was officially formed. Since then the club has grown well in terms of popularity and the course on which it plays has also matured well.

Made up of 18 holes the course here is of an unusual and intriguing style. Although it lies very close to the sea, it is not in fact a links course but instead a beautiful example of a meadowland (parkland) style course. Measuring 5226 metres from the white tees and with a par of 69, this may not be the longest course in the world however it still boasts its fair share of features. Panoramic views combine with strategic bunkers and perfect, slick greens to create this enjoyable yet challenging course which is equally suited to both the lesser and more experienced of golfers.

Facilities at the club are fair and it is a certainty that all that visit here will receive a very warm and friendly welcome. The clubhouse is home to a fully licensed bar offering a selection of beverages for all to enjoy after their rounds as well as an ample restaurant area offering a wide variety of meals.

Green fee rates for visitors to this course are very reasonable throughout the week and are still also somewhat reasonable at the weekend although obviously somewhat higher. Tee time availability for visitors is fair and there should be a time to suit all if organised in advance. There are also a number of discounts and offers available for play here at selected times of the year which offer even greater value.

The club is well situated to receive visitors from both near and far and the rest of Northern Ireland as well as the north of nearby Ireland are easy to reach. With regards to visitors from further afield the club is located around 16km away from Belfast International airport which operates a number of flights daily to destinations in the rest of the United Kingdom as well as Spain, France and Germany to name but a few.
