Found in the south east of Ireland is the golf course at the Borris Golf Club. Within County Carlow the course lies to the south of the small town of Borris itself which lies on the River Barrow, although the town is small it is steeped in history and has fair amenities. The major city of Kilkenny lies close to the site too and is less than half an hour away by car, the city has plenty to offer to visitors of all ages.

The golf club was originally established in 1907 and recently celebrated its centenary making it amongst the oldest in Ireland. The course is set in the expansive McMurrough Kavanagh estate and is a very mature installation in the local golfing circle.

Consisting of 9 holes the alternating tee boxes allow for a refreshing and diverse 18 hole game if players so wish. Measuring 5680 metres from the blue tees the course has a par of 70. It is of a mature parkland style and there are trees here that have been strategically placed to create a good challenge. The course can be enjoyed by players of all strengths and skill sets and all are sure to have a good round here.

Borris has fair facilities available to all and there is a practice area and putting green for all to use. There are also buggies and trollies available to hire at certain times which should help quicken play. The clubhouse is home to a bar and catering facilities as well as well-appointed changing rooms and showers.

Green fee rates for visitors here are very reasonable and are great value for money, particularly if you are a member’s guest. Tee time availability is good and there should be a time to suit all if booked far enough in advance.

The club is relatively well connected to the rest of Ireland by road thanks to its proximity with Kilkenny and Wexford, Waterford and Carlow are also close. There is a good selection of accommodation for visitors in the local area and there should be something to suit all here.

Don't let the just 9 holes put you off, this is a cracking course with 10 holes and 18 tees. In great condition with very good fairways and nice greens. With the different tees it almost play like a 18 hole course and if you are passing through and only going to play it once it is nice to have another go at certain holes. The scenery is nice and although I didnt go into the clubhouse after the staff were friendly and at 17.50 euros it was great value. Played May 2014 H'cap 9
