Description

Located in an area peppered with a number of fantastic golf courses is Beaverstown Golf Club and its associated golf course. Found in County Dublin near to the coastal town of Donabate this course is somewhat of a hidden gem. Set in a large estate which borders both a nature reserve and Rogerstown Estuary the surroundings of this course are beautiful and the flora and fauna here are second to none. Rush Golf Club and Balcarrick Golf Club are just some of the other courses found in the local area.

The club was founded in 1985 and the course itself is laid out on the site of an old fruit farm; elements of which are still present today. Originally designed by the legendary Eddie Hackett the course was updated and remodelled by the Walker Cup Captain Peter McEvoy in 1999. Recently the club celebrated its 25th anniversary and has become a prominent and popular course in golfing circles.

Measuring 5972 metres this woodland style course has a par of 72. The design and use of features throughout the course here work wonderfully and links well with the history of the land; there is a large apple orchard on the site. Undulating greens, tree-lined fairways and natural water in the form of streams and lakes combine here to create a challenging yet picture-perfect course. This is particularly the case during the apple blossom season which is at its peak during May.

The facilities at this club are well-appointed and include a welcoming restaurant and bar area. There is also a well-stocked professional golf shop which is staffed by PGA professionals, here you will find some of the biggest golfing brands as well as a full club-repair service. Golfing lessons and tuition are also available here by prior arrangement and are perfect for golfers of all strengths from absolute beginners to those wanting to hone their already competent skills.

Visitors are warmly welcomed at Beaverstown and tee times for them are fair in general although they are somewhat restricted at peak times and during weekends. Green fee rates here are also reasonable for visitors and reflect the quality of the course and facilities here as well as the beautiful location.

The club is well connected by road to much of the rest of Ireland and Northern Ireland and the fact that it is less than half an hour by car to the capital Dublin means that rail and air transport links are also good to the rest of the country as well as further afield. Thanks, in part, to the number of golf courses in and around the local area there are a number of accommodation options nearby which should appeal to most tastes and budgets however a car is an essential to access the majority.

Fast greens with a lot of slope. They are faster than they look. Back is tougher with some nice holes. Great finishing hole. (Round played: Oct 2014 - Score: 94 Handicap: 12.9)
