Part of the Ballykisteen Hotel and Golf Resort is an excellent, championship golf course. Found in County Tipperary in Central Southern Ireland the resort and its course have plenty to offer for visitors. Close to the border with county Limerick the course is located to the North West of the town of Tipperary which gives its name to the county and course itself is close to the Tipperary Racecourse which is also found near to the Limerick Junction.

Opened for play in 1993 the course was designed by Des Smyth whose other works include the courses at Bray and Royal Tara Golf Clubs to name but a few. It was formerly known as the Ballykisteen Stud and the design here is sympathetic to the surroundings and suitable to golfers of all standards.

Measuring 5650 metres from the white tees and with a par of 72, this parkland style course offers challenge and pleasure in equal measure. Features here include naturally contouring greens which work well with the mature trees and woodland. Bunkers have been used brilliantly here and water hazards can be found in abundance on 11 of the holes. Although enjoyable the course is , at times, a test of skill with the 15th hole being cited by the designer himself as one of the “most difficult in the country”.

As it is associated with the hotel the facilities here are good and include a professional golf shop which is proud to boast a great range of well-known golfing brands from around the world which players can purchase. There is also a covered driving range on which players can practice and hone their skills and lessons and tuition are available for those who may need it. There are a number of dining and drinking locations throughout the resort which can be used by players here also.

Tee times for visitors to this course are extensive and there should be a time suitable to all wanting to play here. Weekend availability is somewhat more restricted however and overall availability changes with the seasons. Green fee rates to play on this course are very reasonable and offer good value for money which makes this a great option for those wanting to enjoy a round of the sport they love without breaking the bank.

The club and course are well connected to the rest of Ireland by road and there are a number of accommodation options in and around the local area which will appeal to most. The resort itself also boasts a hotel and again is a popular option with many of the visitors here.

Great course in great condition. Spectacular views of the Galtee mountains. Greens were superb, big, fast and true. There's plenty of hazards to catch you out if you veer off line. (Round played: Aug 2014 - Score: 92 Handicap: )
