In the East of County Donegal, Ireland is where you will find the golf course at Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club. Found in the beautiful Finn Valley area of the county the local area has plenty to offer for visitors from all walks of life.  The name of the club is made up of the two towns which lie on the banks of the River Finn which runs through said valley. They are twinned town with Stranorlar being the smaller of the two.

Designed by P.C. Carr this parkland style course is often cited as one of the toughest in Ireland and a wide selection of shots and techniques are often demanded from players if they want to do well here. The club was founded in 1957 and has seen many changes and adaptations throughout the years, most notably the extension of the course to the full 18 holes in 1978.

The course measures just over 5000 metres from the yellow tees and has a fair par of 68. This is a prime example of an Irish parkland and has a host of features set to challenge all. The greens here are of the high USGA standard and the drainage here makes for excellent play all year round. Surrounding mature parkland and trees also add further challenge here.

Facilities at Ballybofey & Stranorlar are good and there is a comfortable bar and restaurant onsite serving an array of refreshments to members and visitors throughout the year. At present the club is constructing practice facilities including pitching greens and practice bunkers which will be an excellent place for players to hone their skills when finished. Indoor installations for additional sports such as squash are currently being constructed also.

Tee times for visitors to the course have great availability and are spread well across the course of the day. Weekend tee times have a slightly reduced availability but are still generous. Green fee rates here are very reasonable and offer excellent value for money making this a popular option for players wanting to enjoy a game without breaking the bank.

Transport links to the course are fair and the nearest larger transport hub is probably that of Londonderry which can be found over the border in Northern Ireland. There are a number of moderately sized hotels options in and around the local area also which should suit the needs and budgets of most visitors.

Lovely course in a lovely area. Was very wet when I played, but it was a very enjoyable round, with some absolutely gorgeous holes.

Played here at the end of May on a Tuesday morning using Gren Free vouchers. The course was in excellent condition, undulating holes, very pretty with a few tricky holes for golfers of all abilities. The bar was desetred we had a Guiness but they were yet to do food at that stage, couldn't even get a bag of Tayto's! But staff were friendly and look forward to playing again next year.
