Located in the west of Ireland is the golf course at the Ballinrobe Golf Club. Lying within the beautiful county of Mayo the site can be found just outside of the town of Ballinrobe itself which has a rich and interesting history. The club and course are set in a large estate which dates back to 1238 and has been the home to many notable Irish dynasties, the last of which was the Hoban family that sold said estate to the golf club back in 1992.

The club here has been in existence for over a hundred years and was originally formed in 1895 making it one of the oldest in Ireland. During its early life the club played on a number of different course and locations throughout the local area until in 1995 it moved to its present site. The course at its current location was designed by the late, great Eddie Hackett who has worked extensively on projects throughout Ireland.

Of a parkland style the course here is made up of 18 holes. Measuring just under 6120 metres from the white tees this course has a par of 73. Features of this course are very traditional and players are sure to find this a well-designed and beautifully maintained course on which to play golf. This is of a championship standard with mature greens and a strong presence of mature trees combined with small, cleverly placed water features combine to create just the right amount of a challenge for all.

Facilities at the club are very good and many have recently been improved and updated so as to meet the ever-changing needs of players. In the clubhouse you will find well-appointed locker rooms complete with shower facilities as well as a professional pro shop and welcoming bar and restaurant which players can enjoy after their rounds. With regards to practice facilities, the club boasts its own driving range and there is also a resident PGA professional.

Tee time availability for visitors to this course are generally good throughout weekdays although weekend availability is somewhat more restricted. Green fees here are very reasonable and there are a number of discounts and offers available for certain times of play which offer good value for money.

Getting to the club from much of central and western Ireland is relatively straightforward as road links are good. With regards to visitors coming from further afield the nearest transport hub is that of Galway which is just over 50km to the south of the site and onward links from there are much stronger. Accommodation options in and around the local area are fair and there should be something to suit all tastes and budgets.
