Situated in the west of Ireland within County Mayo is the Ballina Golf Club and its associated golf course. Found in the heart of the beautiful Moy Valley region the course here is set in some prime Irish countryside and the stunning Ox Mountains provide an excellent backdrop to the course. The site lies to the south of the small town of Ballina itself which is famed for its salmon and a particular highlight for any keen angler is the annual Ballina Salmon Festival making this a perfect destination for avid golfers and anglers alike.

The club was founded in 1910 and recently celebrated its centenary. In the early years of its life it was somewhat nomadic and played on a variety of courses in the local area however in 1924 it settled at Mossgrove and has remained there even since. The course here originally comprised of nine holes however in 1995 it was extended to the full 18 holes so as to further add to its appeal.

Of a challenging parkland style, the course here measures some 5645 metres from the white tees and has a par 71. Features include lush, expansive fairways, well maintained and manicured greens as well as strategically placed water hazards and bunkers which combine to make a fair and enjoyable test of golf for players of varying standards.

Facilities at Ballina are good and most can be found in the modern clubhouse which was completed in 2005. Here you will find a welcoming bar and restaurant area for players to enjoy after their rounds as well as a number of lounge areas. There are also well-appointed shower and locker facilities at the disposal of all players. With regards to practice facilities there is a modest seven bay covered driving range with a number of targets for players to use.

Although the club has a good member presence the tee time availability for visitors is generally good and there should be a time to suit all. Obviously weekend availability is more restricted however if visitors are willing to avoid peak times then this should not be a problem. Green fee rates here are very reasonable and reflect the quality of the course and facilities, there are also a number of discounts and offers available to play here which offer even greater value for money. A number of open competitions are also held here throughout the year which can be enjoyed by members and visitors alike.

As the course is found in some of the most western parts of Ireland getting here can take some time however road links are generally good and the nearest larger transport hub is that of the city of Sligo which is 60km to the east of the site. Accommodation options in and around the local area are fair and there should be something to suit most.
