Situated in the province of Leinster near to the East coast of Ireland is the golf course at Balbriggan Golf Club. Found near to the coast in the town of the same name the course lies in County Dublin and is around 32 km to the North of the capital.

Although the club was originally formed in 1945 it has undergone major transformations in recent years to make it the excellent course which it is today. Originally consisting of just 9 holes it took more than 40 years for the club to acquire sufficient land to allow for the extension. In 1999 the applauded golf course designer Pat Ruddy was bought in to make some alterations however that wasn’t enough for the club and more recently in 2009 they bought in Eddie Connaughton to help facilitate further redevelopments to allow the course to meet USPGA standards.

The 18 holes now measure 5672 metres from the yellow tees and have a par of 72. Expect nicely undulating terrain here with a number of raised tees and elevated greens. There are numerous water hazards throughout the course which are a more recent addition to this otherwise mature course which creates an interesting and challenging juxtaposition for many. The layout here is interesting with many tree lined fairways featuring numerous doglegs which further add to the challenge here.

Recreational facilities at Balbriggan are somewhat restricted however in terms of practice and professional golfing features there is plenty to offer. The club boasts a very well stocked professional shop selling some of the most popular golfing brands. They also offer golf lessons and tuition for those who want to better their game.  Repairs of players’ existing equipment can also be made here and include the re-gripping and re-shafting of a number of different golf club types.

Tee times for visitors to this course are generally restricted to weekday sessions as at weekends the course is generally used by members. Throughout the year the club hosts a number of open competitions which can be enjoyed by both visitors and members. Green fee rates here are reasonable considering the prestige and quality of the course and its design but there are a number of offers and discounts available throughout the year which provide even greater value for money.

The club and course are generally well connected by road and thanks to its proximity to Dublin visitors from further afield can easily get here. There are a number of accommodation options in and around the local area also to house visitors and these should appeal to the majority of tastes and budgets.
